Umran Shaikh grew up in Bombay and started his career making posters for B-grade Bollywood films.
He spent the next 10 years in Dubai, working at agencies like Lowe, Young & Rubicam and Saatchi & Saatchi as an art director before trying his hand at photography.
Soon deciding that moving images were a lot more fun, he quit advertising to pursue cinematography, setting up akela - his own production house based in Dubai.
Once in a while, he still designs film posters.
